That's the solution! The factory reset solved the problem. For the sake of the completion of this question, I did not find a way to upgrade the firmware from the serial port but I was able to manage a full update to the latest FW. Thank you for the support. « 1 2 ».
Accepted Solution. I think the 540 or 542 firmware should run fine on the 520. Unless ZyXEL build something in that fails when only 2 sata ports are detected. To be able to install 542 firmware, you have to change the box ID in the bootloader environment from B203 to B403 (or B103 if you want to use 540 firmware).
For example VPN50 having latest firmware V5.35 (ABHL.0) At "Configuration / Wireless / AP Management / Firmware" I can see the latest and available firmware to be the same: V6.50 Patch 1. At "Configuration / Wireless / AP Management / AP Group" I have selected the proper AP group and the clicked Upgrade. At logs didn't see no obvious effect.
